AJ Calvert is a promising all-rounder from Sydney, Australia. A hard-working Top Order Opening or first drop Left-hander, AJ is also a capable Right-arm Off-Spin bowler. A Parramatta junior, AJ represented the club in the AW Green Shield in 2016-17 and was graded at 16, making 15 appearances for the 4th XI.
AJ has continued to progress his game, advancing through each of the grades over the subsequent seasons to now being a semi-regular feature for the 1st XI in the world’s premier amateur cricket league, Sydney Grade Cricket. AJ has regularly hit 500+ runs a season through each grade level and has contributed with timely wickets with his tidy off-break bowling.
The 2020-21 summer was his breakthrough year, finally progressing to the 1st XI and scoring a patient 30 (105) to help set up a successful run chase of 400 against Hawkesbury DCC. He was alos a strong contributor in the club’s U21 Poidevin-Gray Shield side, finishing the season with a combined 594 runs @ 28.29 with a best of 84* coming against Blacktown in a successful chase of 178-5.
AJ was one of the standouts of the summer in 2022, joining Brewood CC in the Staffs Prem. He not only pummelled 1645 runs @ 56.72 but helped himself to 78 wickets @ 14.14 in a 36-game stint with the Midlands based club.
He took a big step up in 2023, heading to the ECB North Staffs South Cheshire Premier League, joining Eccleshall CC for their first crack at the Premier Division. A slow start with bat eventually turned around with a strong finish to the summer, with 458 runs but still shy of the big numbers he is capable of. His bowling was stoic as ever, with 36 wickets @ 16.08 an excellent return for what is still quite a young man making his way in the game.
Seeking constant improvement, AJ seeks to return to the UK next summer and will no doubt be a popular pick up for clubs seeking a solid top-order Batsman that can contribute with the ball next summer. AJ would prefer to play ECB Premier League Cricket next season
