Akshay Chandran is a talented spin-bowling all-rounder from Kerala, India. A skilful slow left-arm orthodox spinner, Akshay is an equally adept Left-hander that can bat anywhere in the top or middle order. A junior star for his native Kerala, he first represented the region as a 13-year-old when selected for the U15 side to contest the 2007 Polly Umrigar Trophy.

He continued to be a regular feature for Kerala at every age group and was first selected for the State U19 side at the age of 16. Akshay’s all-round game kept him in contention through to the U25 nationwide competitions and made his first-class debut for Kerala in the 2014-15 Ranji Trophy in January 2015. On debut against Services, Akshay scored 39 (53) and bagged match figures of 7-137 including a match-winning 6-39 as Services followed on, dismissing the top 5 batsman in their second dig and leaving a paltry 10 runs for Kerala to win.

A bit of 2nd year syndrome kicked and issues with his action saw his place in the side become sporadic but a maiden First Class hundred of 102*, against Services, was a highlight until a career best 150 against Jharkhand in December 2022 and sees him establish himself firmly in the squad again.

Seeking his first season in the UK in 2023, Akshay will be an excellent signing for any UK club seeking a high-class Left-arm Spinner that is capable of scoring big runs anywhere in the order next summer.
