Alex Pyecroft is an outstanding player/coach and seam-bowling all-rounder from Tasmania, Australia. A tall Right-arm Fast/Medium seamer, Alex is also a very capable Right-handed Middle Order Batsman. A junior star for Launceston Cricket Club, he represented the Tasmanian U17 & U19 sides from 2008 to 2012, switching to North Hobart Cricket Club ahead of the 2011-12 season in his final year of age group cricket. He went on to become a fully contracted player with the Tasmanian Tigers.
His debut summer in the Cricket Tasmania Premier League 1st Grade competition was outstanding, bagging 31 wickets @ 22.19 with a best of 4-22. Within 12 months, Alex was featuring for the Tasmanian Tigers 2nd XI in the Cricket Australia Futures League and would eventually earn a full contract with his home state. Alex made his first-class debut for Tasmania in the 2018–19 Sheffield Shield season, going on to make 8 red-ball appearances bagging a very credible 22 wickets with a best of 5-28 against QLD in his second game.
Still just 30, Alex is a deep thinker and student of the game with a good cricket brain. Alex has used his experience in the professional game to transition to coaching whilst still playing, taking the lead as the Tasmanian Tigers & Hobart Hurricanes Female Senior and Pathway Coach, whilst still representing North Hobart CC in the CTAS Premier League.
Alex has one previous season of experience in the UK, a 2016 summer with Harborne CC in the Birmingham & District League. He was excellent, scoring 605 runs @ 35.59 with a best of 105* (77) and bagging himself an exceptional 63 wickets @ 13.76 with a best of 6-44.
Seeking a return to the UK in 2023, Alex joined Marshfield CC in the West of England League and was as outstanding as we’d expect. Not only was his coaching elite but his 33 wickets @ 15.21 and 674 runs @ 44.93 was a strong return in a team that battled.
Alex will be based in the UK from 2024 onwards and is now seeking to transition to a pathways/elite coaching role with a County/Academy programme in the South East.
As a level 4 coach, Alex will be an outstanding off-field recruit going forward.
Alex has the right to work in the UK via a UK Ancestry Visa.
