Amoda Widanapathirana is a promising young Batsman from Negombo, Sri Lanka. A patient Right-handed Opening or Top Order Batsman, he first appeared at senior level in 2019 for Sri Lankan Ports Authority. After a handful of games for SLPA, he linked with Negombo CC ahead of the 2022 season after a brief layover with Ace Capital.
A solid showing in the National U23 tournament in 2022 for Negombo yielded 344 runs @ 34.40 and led to Amoda making his first class debut against Ace in Aug 2022. Scoring a patient 39 from a position of 19-3 to help set up a first innings lead, he backed this up in the next game with an extremely patient 42 (209). Whilst he hasn’t had a prolific start to his professional career, he has the talent to have an impact in the First class game and is only just getting his journey underway.
Seeking his first placement in the UK in 2024, Amoda will be a good pick up for a club seeking a young up and comer for next summer. Amoda also bowls tidy part-time Off Spin.
