Ashley Chandrasinghe is an immensely talented top order batsman from Melbourne, Australia. A classical Left-hander, Ashley is a patient and gritty opener that has been on Victoria’s radar from a very young age, representing the Bushrangers from U15 level in 2016 through to being awarded a professional contract with Victoria ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Having attended Berwick Grammar School, Ash has been a long-term Casey-South Melbourne District Cricket Club member, starring for the club time after time and scoring a marvellous 144 (286) on First Grade debut in summer 2019-20. He made his debut for the Victoria 2nd XI in November 2021 and in 3 matches for the 2’s, pummelled 423 runs @ 84.60 throughout summer 2021-22 with a best of 112 against South Australia.

At the conclusion of that summer, Ash was awarded a state contract and spent his winter playing in Darwin as preparation. Ash set a new record by hitting five consecutive centuries in the Darwin Premier League and was awarded the Ralph Wiese Medal in September 2022. He carried that form into his Sheffield Shield debut for Victoria in October 2022 against Tasmania in Hobart. Batting at No. 3, Ash scored a patient 119* (333) and showed he was the real deal.

Ash went on to opening the batting for Victoria in the 2022–23 Sheffield Shield Final against Western Australia, batting for almost seven hours, to scoring 46 not out and becoming the first man to carry his bat in a Sheffield Shield final in over 20 years.

An outstanding 2023-24 summer for Casey-South Melbourne saw Ash win the John Scholes Medal as man of the match in the 2023–24 Victorian Premier Cricket final, scoring 53 & 103* and carrying his bat in the second innings.

Seeking his first winter abroad in 2025, Ash will be an outstanding pick up for any UK club seeking a patient left-hander that can be the rock at the top of the order next summer. Ash also bowls some part-time Leg Spin and will look to use his time in the UK to develop his skills with the ball.
