Aviwe Mgijima

Aviwe is a hard-working all-rounder from Cape Town in South Africa. Having been around for over 10 years on the First Class scene, Aviwe has had an up and down time with injuries & form interrupting consistent appearances for the franchise but in 2016-17, he was to be named the Cobras player of the year.

A gritty middle order batsman and more than capable spin bowler, Aviwe scored five 50’s throughout the Cobras Sunfoil Series campaign in 2016-17 and has contined his good form, starting the 2017-18 season with 304 runs @ 43.42 including scoring a hundred in first class cricket for the first time in the season opener.

In summer 2018, Aviwe joined ECB Devon Premier League powerhouse, Sidmouth CC for a shortened stint before getting Married in August. His economical seam bowling yielded 27 wickets @ 14.93 and he only went at more than 5 runs an over on 2 occasions. He also contributed with the bat, scoring 483 runs @ 40.25 including a high quality 132 (88) vs. Bovey Tracey in a 202-run hammering in June.

Aviwe returned to the UK in 2023, signing for Ardmore CC in the North West Cricket Union. A tough time with the bat saw Aviwe score 432 runs @ 30.85 but his bowling was solid, with 27 wickets @ 19.70 with a best of 4-13. He returned to the UK in 2024, signing for Woodhouses CC in the GMCL Prem 2 but his season was cut short, with a family bereavement in July requiring him to return home.

Aviwe will be a fantastic pick up for a club seeking a genuine all-rounder. Aviwe is a Level 2 coach.
