Brighton Chipungu is a tidy spin-bowling all-rounder from Harare in Zimbabwe. A right-handed lower order Batsman, Brighton is predominantly a wicket-taking right-arm Leg-Spinner. Growing up in a cricket loving community, Old Highfield, Brighton was introduced to cricket culture early on. He attended Churchill High School and was a standout for the school’s 1st XI.
He was selected in various age group squads and off the back of strong performances in the developmental sides, pushed his way in to the strong Takashinga Cricket Club side for the local Premier League in Harare. Consistent performances for Takashinga CC, playing alongside and against a number of senior National Team and First class players, he earned a call up into the Manicaland Mountaineers 4-day and One-day squads.
By no means a master of his craft yet, Brighton works as hard as anyone on his game and at the start of the 2020-21 season, was called in to the Takashinga squad to contest the National Premier League, playing 2 games and picking up a best of 2-32 (9) against the Harare Kings. He would make his Professional debut for the Mountaineers by the end of the 2020-21 summer.
Seeking his first season abroad next summer, Brighton will be a good pick up for any club seeking a talented young spinner who can contribute with the bat in the middle to lower order. His batting an aspect of his game he is keen to work on and make the most out the opportunity to develop it in league cricket.
