Buddika Madushan

Buddika Madushan is a hard-hitting and no nonsense cricketer from Sri Lanka. A military man, Buddika has been a member of the Sri Lankan Navy SC since joining them out of school. A Left-handed Batsman, Buddika is also a crafty right-arm Medium/Fast seamer with clever change ups and genuine swing, making him ideal for UK conditions. From a batting perspective, Buddika is predominantly a middle-order player in red ball cricket but has been used as an opener in white-ball cricket with his early innings clean hitting used to get things off to a flyer.

A late bloomer, apart from a few SL Navy Under-23 appearances, it wasn’t until 2018 that Buddika made his first professional appearance for the SL Navy SC, a very uneventful 3-Day First Class match vs Lankan CC. He’s gone on to become a very reliable white-ball player in particular with the ball, with good economy and a canny knack of picking up wickets. Whilst the volume of runs at the top of the order haven’t come as he would have liked, SL Navy have persisted with him facing the new ball.

In summer 2022, Buddika headed to the UK for the first time, joining Spring View CC in the Liverpool & District Competition. He was excellent for the club as they finished 4th in the 1st Division, their highest finish in the club’s history. In all, 917 runs @ 41.68 with a best knock of 129 against Sefton Park to go with 26 wickets @ 23.65.

He backed his debut season up in style, piling on 1143 runs @ 57 & gorging himself on 73 wickets @ 9.21 over the summer for Anston CC, a historically very happy home for Sri Lankan Cricketers. He returned to ACC for the 2024 season, scoring 952 runs and nabbing 56 wickets @ 18.89

Seeking a return to the UK next summer, Buddika will be a good pick up for a UK club seeking a genuine all-rounder that cam contribute with bat and ball in equal measure.
