Carl Mumba is an exciting Fast bowling prospect from Kwekwe, Zimbabwe. A tall, strong, Opening fast bowler and better than useful lower order batsman, Carl currently represents the Mid West Rhinos franchise in the various Cricket Zimbabwe competitions across all three formats.
Carl made his first class debut in 2013 and his Test cricket debut for the Zimbabwe cricket team in October 2016. In October 2016 he was included in Zimbabwe’s Test squad for their series against Sri Lanka. He made his Test debut for Zimbabwe against Sri Lanka on 29 October 2016 and became the 100th player to represent Zimbabwe in Tests. The following month he was included in Zimbabwe’s One Day International (ODI) squad for the tri-series against Sri Lanka and the West Indies.
He made his ODI debut in the first match of the tri-series, against Sri Lanka. In February 2017, he was named in an academy squad by Zimbabwe Cricket to tour England later that year. Carl sustained an ACL injury in 2017 in the third ODI against Sri lanka and upon his ruturn in December 2018, during the opening round of the 2018–19 Logan Cup, he took 6-7 in the second innings against Mountaineers. These were the best figures for a bowler taking six wickets in a first-class cricket match in Zimbabwe.
Having had one season of cricket in the UK, a 2016 stint with Hutton Cricket Club in the ECB Essex Division Two, collecting 32 wickets @ 23.34 but scoring 546 runs @ 32.12 with a best of 94*, which was a pleasant surprise and show he is a better than useful middle order batsman at club level. He backed this up again in 2022, scoring 897 runs @ 52.76 and taking 32 wickets @ 25.47 for Rye CC in Sussex. In summer 2023, Carl joined Corsham CC in the WEPL League, scoring 604 runs and chiming in with 36 wickets in another solid return.
Seeking a return to the UK next summer, Carl will be a good pick up for a UK club seeking a new ball bowler who can bat in the middle order next summer.
