Chamu made his professional debut in summer 2003-04 for his native Mashonaland Eagles as a 17 year old in February 2004. His first class debut followed a month later and after a couple of seasons finding his feet in the big time, his maiden first-class century came against Sri Lanka A in Harare in late 2007 although it could have come a few weeks earlier after making 98 before being run out against South Africa Academy.

All in all, his professional career to date a has accrued over 14,000 runs and 250 wickets and he remains and will go down as one of the modern day legends of Zimbabwe domestic cricket.

Chamu has had a couple of season of experience in the UK, with 2013-2015 spent with Harefield CC in the ECB Home Counties Premier League. His 42 appearances for the club yielded 1464 runs @ 44.36 but his even more impressive performances were with the ball, collecting 89 wickets @ 14.72. His best performance coming against Aston Rowant, bagging 7-29 in the 2014 summer.

Seeking his first season abroad in many years in 2024, Chamu has been in top form domestically and whilst he leaves the bowling to the youngsters these days in the professional game, Chamu is certain to be a genuine all-rounder contributor this summer having lost none of his guile. Chamu is a Cricket South Africa Level 2 coach.
