Charles “CJ” Amini, is a Papua New Guinean cricketer from one of the country’s most renowned Cricketing families, with his Grandad, Mum, Dad, Aunt and brother all representing Papua New Guinea in a variety of tournaments over the years. A hard hitting left-hander, he is a very capable Right-arm Leg Spinner.
Destined to represent PNG, CJ led Papua New Guinea’s successful campaign in the ICC East Asia-Pacific Under-15 Cricket 8’s in 2006/07 and was part of the squad for the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Malaysia the following year. He took eight wickets in the Qualifiers for the 2010 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand and made his Twenty20 debut for the Senior side in November 2013. In December 2013, CJ signed a rookie contract with the Sydney Sixers for the 2013–14 Big Bash League season.
In January 2014, CJ dismissed Uganda’s top five and eventually finished with career best figures of 6 for 19 in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers at Pukekura Park, New Plymouth. He made his One Day International debut for Papua New Guinea later that year against Hong Kong in Australia. His Twenty20 International debut came against Ireland in the 2015 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier tournament. At the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifiers against Hong Kong, CJ took 4 wickets for 27 runs in the 4,000th ODI ever played, also scoring 21 runs to bag the player of the match.
Seeking his first season in the UK in 2023, CJ will be a handy pick up for any club seeking a spin-bowling all-rounder for next summer.
