Chathura Peiris is a seasoned campaigner from Panadura, South of Colombo. A bright talent identified at a young age, Chathura made his professional debut at just 17 years old, representing the Schools Invitational XI that participated in the Sri Lankan Inter-provincial T20 competition. In his first game, he picked up 2-14, knocking over two Sri Lankan Internationals in the process in the shape of Malinda Warnapura and Hasantha Fernando. A clever left-arm seamer, Chathura is also a more than capable left-handed middle/lower order batsman, who puts a price on his wicket without being prolific.
A genuine all-rounder, Chathura first appeared around representative cricket at 16, selected for the Seeduwa Raddluwa Cricket Club U23’s side to contest the 2007 National U23 development division. He would go on to represent not only his provincial age group sides but the Sri Lankan U19 National side at the 2010 ICC U19 World Cup in New Zealand. He has gone on to carve out a successful provincial career, appearing over 120 times across all 3 formats as well an appearance for Sri Lanka at the 2011 Hong Kong Sixes.
He has ventured to the UK shores 3 times in total, joining JG Meakins CC in the ECB North Staffordshire Premier League in 2015, picking up 506 runs/31 wickets in his first venture to England. He would return in 2018, joining Strabane CC in the North West Cricket Union competition for what would become a 2 season stint, picking up 1169 runs and & 63 wickets in 40 games for the Irish club.
Chathura joined Abbotskerswell CC in the Devon League in summer 2021, scoring 692 runs @ 40.71 in 18 games for the club. He also chipped in with 19 wickets @ 18.74, again showing his all-round value. He returned to Devon in 2022, linking with Budleigh Salterton CC, scoring 605 runs @ 40.33 and collecting 27 wickets @ 24.04.
Seeking a return to the UK next summer, Chathura will be a good pick up for any club seeking a genuine seam-bowling all-rounder for next summer that is keen to get involved around the club and make the most of the chance to return.
