Chathura Randunu

Chathura Randunu is an experienced spin-bowling all-rounder from Sri Lanka. A hard-hitting left-hander, Chathura is capable of batting anywhere in the order despite playing as a lower order batsman in first class cricket but his dominant skill is most certainly his prolific left-arm orthodox spin bowling, with over 400 professional wickets to his name.

Having been on the First Class and domestic circuit for the best part of the last 17 years, Chathura brings with him a wealth of experience and started off with the now defunct Singha Cricket Club back in summer 2007/08. Most recently, he’s been representing the Air Force Sports Club. Over the course of his career, Chathura has been one of the most effective strike spinners in the country not just with his impressive strike rate but his economy in white ball cricket also outstanding.

Chathura has a wealth of UK experience, with four previous UK stints. A 2015 season with Epsom saw him get off to a great start to his time in England, with 41 wickets in just 15 matches @ 12.97. He returned for back to back seasons with Astley & Tyldesley CC in 2019 & 2021, with the 2020 COVID-affected year disecting his time with the club that yielded 800+ runs & 81 wickets.

In his most recent season in the UK, a 2022 summer with Alsager CC, a late arrival restricted him to just 17 appearances due to visa issues. He managed to score 400 runs & bag 30 wickets in what could have been a much more productive summer had he been able to arrive in April as planned.

Seeking a return to the UK next summer, Chathura will be an excellent pick up for any UK club seeking a high-class left-arm spinner that is a more than capable contributor with the bat in hand. He is an ECB Level 2 qualified coach.
