Christopher de Freitas is a talented young all-rounder from the Free State region of South Africa. A hard-hitting Left-handed middle order Batsman, his abilities as a seamer have continued to grow as he fills out and improve his athleticism. Having completed his schooling at Potch Volkskool for who he was a star contributor, he played the role of genuine all-rounder for both the school and various age group representative sides he was picked for.
A standout at the National U15 week in 2017-18, in just 6 games, Christopher had 211 runs @ 35 with a best of 77 vs Border U15. He complimented this with 10 wickets @ 14.9 with a best of 3-19 against Limpopo. He was also asked to play up an age group for the U17 side later that summer. Roll on summer 2019-20 and he had taken things to another level, not only dominating for the U17 side but also the Lions Franchise Cubs, for whom he scored 264 runs @ 132.00 with a best of 132 (121) at the Franchise Cubs week.
Having found his way to Ireland in 2021, Christopher joined Balbriggan CC for the 2021 Leinster Cricket Union season. In 14 matches, Christopher picked up 25 wickets @ 12.16 with a best of 5-13 against North Kildare. He also chipped in with 315 runs @ 31.50 with a best of 53*, also against NKCC. He remained with the club for the 2022 summer, scoring 467 runs with a best of 81 vs Rush CC.
Chris returned to Balbriggan for 2022/2023 and summer 2023 saw a breakout summer for him with not only 529 runs @ 48 for BCC but a Leinster Lightning debut followed and sees him move into the reckoning for higher honours on the emerald isle.
Summer 2024 saw him remain with Balbriggan but also debut for the Ireland Academy side, scoring 261 runs @ 52.20 against the West Indies Academy side.
Residing in Ireland, Christopher is an exciting young talent that will be one to watch over the next couple of summers.
