CJ van der Walt

CJ is a talented young Batsman & Off-Spinner from Boksburg in South Africa. A product of the Dr. EG Jansen High School, where his cricket development spiked sharply, CJ was selected in the First XI from Grade 10. A hard-hitting Middle Order Batsman, CJ was capped an amazing 138 times for his School First XI between 2013-15. In this time, he amassed over 3500 runs and nearly 150 wickets and was a regular selection for the Easterns Schools representative teams.

Following his first UK stint in 2016 with Poloc CC in Scotland, where he scored just shy of 800 runs and took over 30 wickets, CJ returned in 2017, joining Oakmere CC in the Cheshire Cricket League. Once again, he showed his all-round ability, scoring 696 runs @ 43.50 and taking an incredible 54 wickets @ 8.57.

Having re-located to Northern Ireland following his marriage to a Carrickfergus local, CJ joined the Carrickfergus club for 2019, having spent the previous 2018 summer sitting on the sidelines due to Home office regulations. His and the club’s patience was worth the wait, finishing the summer in 10th place on both the leading run-scorers and wicket-takers logs with 612 runs @ 36.00 and picking up 27 wickets @ 23.59. He remained with Carrickfergus throughout 2020 & 2021.

In summer 2022, CJ was an excellent stabilising influence and off the back of his growing maturity, was appointed captain for 2023 and beyond. His summer consisted of 519 runs @ 34.60 and 27 wickets @ 19.11.

Permanently Residing in Northern Ireland, a well mannered and focused young man, CJ will be a great pick up for a club seeking a top/middle order batsman that is a genuine strike off-spinner for next summer
