Corey Young is a bright young prospect from Perth, Australia. A right-handed lower order Batsman, he isn’t known for his batting exploits but over the last 3-4 seasons has showed his genuine value with the ball in hand as a genuine strike weapon for Scarborough DCC. An economical, right-arm medium/fast seamer, he joined Scarborough in summer 2015-16 and debuted in the 4th Grade & Ted Hussey Shield (u17) sides, picking up 13 wickets @ 15.15 in his first season of grade cricket.
Corey started the 2016-17 summer in 4th grade and after a couple of excellent performances found himself climbing to 3rd and then 2nd grade pretty quickly. His 20 wickets @ 18.90 through the grades at a little over 3 runs per over saw him rewarded with his first appearance in First grade against Claremont-Nedlands DCC at the back end of the summer. He returned 0-20 off 8 very tidy overs against a strong opposition but the opportunity at that stage was more for experience for one of the club’s promising young quicks at just 17.
2017-18 would yield 24 wickets @ 21.17 across 2nd/3rd grade and 2018-19 would be a breakout year for him, collecting 39 wickets @ 16.10 with a best of 6-20 and with Corey securing himself more and more game time not only in 2nd grade but in 2019-20, multiple games for the 1st XI in T20 cricket. In summer 2020-21, Corey secured more regular cricket in the 1st XI, bagging 27 wickets @ 20.81 for the summer and by 2022-23 has become exclusively a 1st grade seamer.
In summer 2022, Corey took his first UK opportunity, joining ECB Northants Premier League club, Desborough Town CC. In a solid first up effort, Corey took 39 wickets @ 27.23 as the club held their position in the Premier League in a tough season.
Summer 2023 saw Corey move slightly further north to Bourne CC in the ECB Lincolnshire Premier League. Corey was against a solid contributor, with 56 wickets and 665 runs, with Corey making the most of his chance to bat more in the sunday league, scoring a hundred on one occasion. His 30+ league wickets in the league was a good return for him in his second summer abroad. He backed this up with another season for Bourne CC, 36 league wickets was a another good return.
Corey is seeking to return to the UK next summer and join a club that can challenge his cricketing abilities but also provide a friendly club environment for next summer. Corey will be travelling on a UK Ancestral Visa.
