CP Klijnhans is an exciting top order prospect from Kimberley, South Africa. A brutal left-hander that can bat anywhere in the top order, CP is also a capable gloveman as well a developing Right-arm leg spinner. Schooled at the prestigious cricket school, Grey College Bloemfontein, he is currently contracted to the Northern Cape Heat, formerly known as Griqualand West, the province he grew up representing and wanting to play for as youngster.
Identified very early on as a player of promise, CP represented Griqualand West from the age of 12 years old, first appearing at back-to-back National U13 championships in 2012 & 2013. He ventured off to the Free State for his schooling in his mid-teens, representing Grey College at the National Schoolboy championships whilst also being a regular for the Free State age groups now he was falling under their catchment. He’d go on to represent Free State/Knights at U15, Cubs and Coke Week level.
He remained in Bloemfontein to study at the University of the Free State and made his pro debut for the Knights in the 2021/22 CSA T20 Challenge whilst also representing the Knights Colts side. An opportunity to return to Kimberley arose ahead of summer 2022-23, so he joined the Northern Cape Heat squad, appearing in three T20 fixtures through the summer. A 50-over debut came the following summer and a coveted red-ball debut came in November 2024, making two pre-Xmas appearances including a maiden ton, an attacking 100 (117) in a big win against Limpopo, having arrived at the crease with the Heat in a precarious position of 101-5.
CP had his first UK summer in 2025, with Denton St Lawrence in the GMCL Prem 2. A solid first outing, with 787 runs @ 35, he’ll look to return and improve on his first up season.
A player with plenty of upward curve, CP will be a fantastic pick up for any UK club seeking a hard-hitting left-hander at the top of the order for next summer that is looking to utilise the summer to continue developing his Leg-Spin and his coaching experience to make him an even more attractive option for clubs into the future.
