Damitha Silva

Damitha Silva is an exciting all-round spin bowling prospect from Sri Lanka. A patient Left-hander, Damitha is comfortable batting anywhere in the top order but prefers 1st drop, he is also an excellent Slow left-arm Orthodox spinner. Damitha currently represents Lankan CC in the Sri Lankan domestic system. He attended Maliyadeva College alongside fellow WSX newcomer, Sachintha Peiris.

Having been in the Kurunegala Youth CC Under-23’s side since he was 15, it was no surprise that Damitha was picked for the Sri Lankan U19 side the same year, debuting against the Australian U19 side in Colombo. He would go on to represent Sri Lanka at U19 level on no less than 29 occasions, bagging 48 wickets in the process. Damitha represented Sri Lanka at the 2016 ICC Under 19 World Cup held in Bangladesh, bagging 8 wickets.

A first class debut would soon follow for Kurunegala in 2016 but white-ball cricket would evade him until 2019 when he made debuts in both formats for Tamil Union at the back of the 2018-19 summer. A switch to Lankan CC ahead of the 2019-20 summer, Damitha has gone on to become a regular for them and to date has put together a very acceptable professional record of 1084 runs @ 27.79 to go with 59 wickets @ 28.86 across all three formats.

Damitha joined Denton St Lawrence CC for his first season in the UK and he was excellent in the Greater Manchester Premier League with the ball in hand, finishing as the Premier League’s leading wicket taker, with 64 wickets @ 13.09 and grabbing a season personal best of 7-39. He was solid with the bat, scoring 732 runs in all formats @ 29.28.

Seeking a return to the UK next summer, Damitha will no doubt be a popular pick for any club seeking a genuine all-rounder that can bat anywhere in the order as well as bowl the in-demand Slow Left-arm Orthodox that is so effective in UK conditions.
