Dane Schadendorf is an exceptionally talented young Wicket-Keeper/Batsman originally from Zimbabwe but now based in the UK. A very capable Right-handed Batsman, he can bat anywhere in the order from Opener to late innings finisher. His elite skill is certainly his natural ability behind the stumps, with not only tidy all-round glovework but his penchant for taking an absolute screamer, as you will see in the video below.
A school boy star, Dane represented Zimbabwe at U13 level and was selected as a reserve for the Zimbabwe U19 squad to contest the 2018 ICC U19 World Cup in New Zealand at just 15 years old. It was a great honour for Dane and his family as his older brother Jayden, was already a member of the U19 National side. He didn’t get on the field in 2018 but he was again selected for the 2020 tournament, still just 17 years old. Batting opportunities were limited to some late order cameos, which was a shame as he had scored 81 (74) against India in the warm-ups and could have been a handy contributor in the top order.
However, plans were afoot to make a big move, a shift to England. A trial with Nottinghamshire soon after arriving resulted in an immediate offer to join the Academy at Trent Bridge and he spent the truncated 2020 summer representing the Notts Academy in 6 games from August onwards. Despite limited appearances and chances to who his wares, Notts had seen enough to know the smart money was to lock Dane in until the end of 2022.
Heading into a solid off-season, Dane is an incredibly hard-working young man who prides himself on his preparation and we will be keen as mustard to see him on the park for Notts a lot more next summer.
