Daniel van der Merwe

Daniel van der Merwe is an exciting all-rounder from Pretoria, South Africa. A brutal left-handed Middle Order Batsman, Daniel is also a skilful Left-arm Fast/Medium seamer that was selected for the 2021-2024 Cricket South Africa National Academy intake.

A schoolboy star, he was a regular selection in various representative teams for Northerns throughout the age groups and progressed to the Titans Cubs/Academy as well as the CSA Talent Acceleration Program. Whilst based in Pretoria, he represented Assupol TUKS in the Northerns Premier League. He opted to go on to study psychology at the University of Johannesburg (UJ).

He made his debut on the domestic scene in summer 2023-24, representing the SA Emerging Players in the One Day Cup. First Class & T20 debuts followed in November2023 & March 2024 respectively with his impact immediate, particularly in the T20 format, with 14 wickets @ 19.07 to go with 169 runs @ 28.16 but with a very impressive 143.22strike rate. His eye-catching T20 performances in the 2023-24 CSA Knockout saw him nominated for the Player of the Season shortlist for that competition.

Seeking his first season in the UK in 2025, Daniel joined Waringstown CC in the NCU Premier League in Beflast, scoring 429 runs @ 30.64 and chipping in with 22 wickets @ 30.09 for the summer.

Daniel will be an good pick up for any club seeking a seam-bowling all-rounder that change the game very quickly with either bat or ball on his day.
