Dineth was one of the brightest young players coming through the Sri Lankan first class system. Debuting for the powerful Tamil Union CC alongside the likes of national stars Tharanga Paranavitana, Jeevan Mendis and Kithruwan Vithanage.
Dineth was prolific at a young age and in his last school season in 2014/15 he scored over 1000 runs for the school season. He still holds the T20 school record of 150 of 60 balls. His impressive schools displays saw him picked to play for the Sri Lankan National Under 19 team.
He was the leading run scorer in the 2015/16 Under 23 provincial tournament and was voted the best batsman for the tournament. He was selected for the Sri Lanka Emerging squad off the back of it. He made his first class debut for Tamil Union CC in 2017 and has made a fantastic start to his career with over 500 runs in his first 9 first class matches.
In his maiden season in the UK playing for Colwyn Bay CC in the strong Liverpool premier league, after a slow start, he finished strongly with 4 x 50’s in his last 6 games. Dineth returned in 2019, joining Barrow CC in the ECB Northern Premier League. Scoring 515 runs @ 27.11 he didn’t return the figures he’d have hoped for but his 27 wickets @ 16.96 was a welcome and surprise return, his best of 7-46 coming against Fulwood & Broughton CC.
A horribly unlucky 2021 season with Barby CC, which included a broken leg, saw Dineth play limited matches. Although testament to his character, he did bat with a broken leg on a number of occasions to try and help the club pursue an elusive first victory. He returned to the UK in 2022, joining Ventnor CC in the Southern Cricket League. Dineth produced the kind of numbers we always knew he was capable of with 1212 runs @ 75.75 with a best of 151 against Sparsholt CC. He also chipped in with 28 wickets. He returned to Ventnor CC in 2023 and was again excellent, with 804 runs @ 47.29.
Summer 2024 saw DT return to Ventnor and he was again outstanding, scoring 794 runs @ 52 & chiming in with 21 wickets @ 16.
With six seasons of league cricket under his belt in very strong leagues, he seeks to play in the south next summer and will no doubt enjoy the better southern batting tracks. Dineth would prefer to travel with his wife, although its not a deal breaker.
