Dinuka Dilshan is a talented young all-rounder from Balapitiya in Sri Lanka. A right-handed opening Batsman, Dinuka is also a very capable seamer who was dominant in his school days at Dharmasoka College, a good cricketing school that has produced a couple of fine International cricketers in Upul Tharanga and Dinesh Chandimal.
Having starred at school, Dinuka was selected for the Galle U23’s side at 18 years old and in summer 2019-20 at just 19, he was handed a First Class debut, scoring 118 (297) in an incredibly mature knock. As is often the case, the big start is hard to keep up and having been unable to replicate the performance at the top level, Dinuka has sought to develop his game by playing abroad in the summer to find that spark again.
In summer 2021, Dinuka headed to the UK to link with Southport & Birkdale CC in the ECB Liverpool & District Premier League. A tough summer on the field in one of the country’s best leagues will have benefitted him greatly but has only piqued his interest in using the UK summer as a way to re-ignite his career.
528 runs @ 26.40 and 23 wickets @ 22.30 was a steady return in a strong league but he will be looking to improve on these next summer and has already completed his ECB Level 2 coaching qualification.
