Ernest Masuku

Ernest Masuku is a skillful seam-bowling all-rounder from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. A hard-hitting Right-hander that can bat anywhere in the middle/lower order, he is an energetic Right-arm Fast/Medium seamer with genuine pace that has been a long-term Tuskers Franchise representative in the Zimbabwe Domestic system.

A bit of a late bloomer, his path to professional cricket wasn’t a storied one, no glistening youth career, no U19 World Cup. He first appeared in the domestic system as a 25-year old having banged the door down in Bulawayo Club Cricket, making his professional debut in May 2017, collecting match figures of 5-84 against the Rhinos. After just his 5th professional game, he was selected for Zimbabwe A to play the touring West Indians.

After slogging away in the professional game for almost a decade, National team representation evaded him until 2025, when he was selected to take on Sri Lanka playing the 2nd ODI in Harare. He’d been a regular in Zimbabwe A/Emerging sides but it was just reward for his consistency over an extended period but his 7-35 against Scotland in April 2025 didn’t hurt his cause when it came to selection meetings later in the year. He had previously been named in the T20I squad for the home series against Namibia but didn’t feature.

Ernest got his first season of UK club cricket under his belt in summer 2019, with Dukinfield CC in the GMCL, bagging 35 wickets @ 21.53 to go with 346 runs @ 21.56. He returned in 2021, joining Plympton CC in Devon in a delayed stint that saw him play just 14 games.

A more complete player these days, Ernest is keen to return to the UK next summer and will be a shrewd pick up for any club seeking a quality new ball seamer for the summer that has the ability to be a better than useful contributor with the bat. Ernest holds his ECB Level 2 Coaching qualification.
