Henry Nicholls is a high-class New Zealand cricketer who has represented the New Zealand national team with aplomb on over 150 occasions. Canterbury born and bred, the gifted Left-hander is also a tidy Right-arm Off Spinner that debuted for Canterbury in the Plunkett Shield in summer 2011-12. Henry has been an integral member of the New Zealand Test side and was a member of the team that won the 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship. He was also part of the New Zealand squad to finish as runners-up at the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
In December 2015, Henry was named in New Zealand’s One Day International (ODI) squad for their series against Sri Lanka, making his Blackcaps ODI debut on 26 December 2015 at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, which was extra special as it is his home ground for Canterbury, scoring 23* as New Zealand won by 7 wickets. His first standout performance came the month after, named man of the match against Pakistan as he scored 82 runs at the Basin Reserve as the Blackcaps won the match by 70 runs.
Just a month later, he was locked in for his Test debut on 12 February 2016 against Australia, scoring a patient 59 in the second innings. A week or so later, Henry was added to New Zealand’s squad for the 2016 ICC World Cup, making his T20I debut against Bangladesh.
In March 2017, during the second Test against South Africa at the Basin Reserve, Wellington, Henry scored his maiden Test century, scoring 118 in the first innings.
Having been around the national team In January 2019, during the third ODI against Sri Lanka, Nicholls scored his first ODI century, making 124 not out off 80 balls.
A high class top order option and great human, Henry will be an excellent pick up for any team, the world over.
