Jake Winter is a brutal top order batsman from Adelaide, Australia. A right-handed opener and capable Right-arm Medium pacer, albeit rarely sighted in First grade with the ball in hand. Jake was a youth star, representing South Australia through the age groups and ultimately, Australia’s U19 side that toured Sri Lanka in 2014 as a 17-year old.
In early 2014, Jake represented South Australia in the National U17 championships and was named the player of the tournament, scoring 389 runs @ 77.80. Injury railroaded the rest of the year but had made his First Grade debut well before he could buy a beer. Jake scored a century in the first round of the grade cricket season in 2016–17 and became the first person nominated to win the premier grade’s rising star award, the Jason Gillespie Medal.
That same summer, Jake made his debut for South Australia in the Futures League, scoring 144 runs against the ACT Comets, resulting in his inclusion in a South Australia XI against the touring South Africa national team, scoring 63 against a world class attack. Jake was selected for another tour match, this time for a Cricket Australia XI against the touring Pakistan national cricket team. This would be his First Class debut, scoring a 1st Innings 39 against a pretty handy attack including Amir, Riaz, Rahat & Nawaz as a 19 year-old. At the end of the season he was awarded with both the Jason Gillespie Medal and a rookie contract with South Australia for the 2017–18 season.
Jake had to wait until 2024 to make his South Australian debut, which is pretty bizarre with the record he’d put together over the last 6 seasons for Glenelg DCC with nothing under a 700-run season since 2017.
Jake has had one season of UK cricket previously, a 2016 stint with South Wilts CC in the Southern Premier League as part of an exchange program with Cricket Australia. No surprises performance wise, as he pumped out 952 runs @ 45.33.
Seeking a return to the Northern Hemisphere in 2025, Jake will be a great pick up for any club seeking top order brutality for next summer.
