A big strapping Queenslander, James Bazley is a genuine all-rounder that was once rated one the best young players in Australia, having been selected for the Australian U19 side and being contracted for Queensland on a rookie contract following that selection. A mix of injury, form and a strong state side saw James search far and wide for more opportunities than had been forthcoming by his early 20’s. A powerfully built right-handed Batsman, with huge levers, James hits the ball as cleanly and as far as just about anyone. He is also a skilful Right-arm Fast/Medium seamer. James is also a very strong coach with a wealth of experience coaching children of all ages.
Whilst he was released from his initial Queensland contract without having been capped, James persisted to work on his game and pursue the dream with appearances for the Cricket Australia XI and a re-location to Hobart temporarily. He returned to Brisbane with a switch of clubs to join his best mate, Marnus Labuschagne, at Redlands CC. Off the back of a brilliant 2020-21 summer, smoking 612 runs in 16 innings with a best of 158 and picking up 37 wickets in 19 matches, he was rewarded with a return to the big time, being signed up by the Brisbane Heat for the Big Bash and following a couple of eye-catching displays of clean-hitting, has remained a regular in the side ever since.
He’s gone on to become a frequent sight for Queensland across all three formats and remains a committed Redlands CC member, playing for the Tigers when he can.
Seeking to play overseas around his domestic commitments, James headed to Kent in 2023, joining Sandwich Town CC in the ECB Kent Premier League. His 420 runs @ 35 & 28 wickets @ 23.50 was a modest return but Kent County Cricket Club saw enough to rope him in for the Metro Bank One Day Cup, making 6 appearances and picking up 8 wickets.
James will be a very popular choice for any Club/Franchise/County seeking a strong individual that is capable of delivering with bat and ball.
