James Ritchie is a quality spin-bowling all-rounder from Kwa-Zulu Natal. A hard-hitting Left-handed middle order batsman, James is a skilful and dangerous Right-arm Leg-Spinner that has been prolific with the ball in particular throughout his career to date.

Schooled at Hilton College in Kwa-Zulu Natal, he represented the KZN Inland side through the age groups through to the Dolphins Cubs and Academy sides. He was selected for the South Africa Colts XI to face the South African Schools at the end of the 2018 Khaya Majola Coke Week, his 3rd appearance at the country’s most prestigious age group cricket event.

He opted to study at Pretoria University (TUKS) and join their elite cricket program, one of the best university cricket set up’s in the world. By the end of his 2nd year of University he was a 1st XI regular for Assupol Tuks and was a mainstay for them through his final years of study.

He returned to Kwa-Zulu Natal post-study and we quickly dragged into the Dolphins Academy and KZN Inland Colts sides and also turning out for the University of KZN in the KZN Premier League competition.

In September 2024, James made his T20 debut for Kwa-Zulu Natal Inland against Limpopo, picking up 1-3 in his solitary over in a big win over the Impalas. He moved to Northern Cape ahead of the 2025-26 summer. He had a short stint in Scotland for Dumfries in 2025, scoring 256 runs @ 51.20 & bagging 8 wickets, all in just 6 games but a clear sign of the talent.

Seeking his first full season of Cricket abroad in 2026, James will be a shrewd signing for any club seeking spin-bowling all-rounder for next summer that has a lot of upward curve.
