Janishka Perera is an exciting young talent from Moratuwa, south of Colombo. A product of St Sebastian’s College, a renowned Cricket school, he was a star for the school and as 1st XI captain, was a key figure in the School’s “Battle of the Gold’s” fixtures.
A gifted Right-hander that is capable of batting anywhere in the top or middle order, Janishka was selected for the Sri Lankan U19 side to contest a 2-match series against Bangladesh in 2018 off the back of his performances for the school and Western Province in the National U19 tournament.
Having represented Ragama CC in the U23 Premier tournament in 2019-20, he joined Moors Sports Club in 2022 following the return to normality, post-COVID, and earned his debut appearance against Nondescripts Cricket Club in the Major Clubs Limited Overs tournament. A first class debut would follow later in 2022 and he’s gone on to become a regular feature for Moors having scored 135* on debut and then backed that up with a high-class 124 against Air Force SC, helping to set up a huge innings win in the process and cementing his place in the first choice XI for the forseeable.
Looking to have his first season in the UK in 2024, Janishka will be an excellent pick up for any club seeking a very talented top order batsman that has plenty of upward curve. He would like to utilise his time here to work on his seam bowling which has not yet seen the light of day in professional cricket but was very successful in age-group cricket.
