João Jorge Huo

João Jorge Huo is an energetic young all-round cricketer from Mozambique. A hard-hitting Right-hander that can bat anywhere in the top order but prefers to open the innings, João is also a sharp, Right-arm Fast/Medium seamer that regularly takes the new ball for the National side.

Identified early as a player of promise, João first appeared for the Mozambique U19 side at the 2018 ICC Under 19 Africa qualifiers, aged just 15. Even more impressive was his debut performance against Lesotho, scoring 58 (46) and picking up 2-15 as they won by well over 200 runs.

His impact for the national side has continued to become more significant and in September 2025, became just the 2nd player to score a hundred for the country at T20I level, with a blistering 107* (54) securing an incredible regulation time tie against fellow Southern Africa rivals, Eswatini with both teams locked at 222-4 each. Fellow WSX Client, Adil Butt broke Mozambique hearts in the subsequent super over with 13 (3) but it didn’t take the shine off João’s incredible knock to force it to 1-over shoot out.

He’s gone on to become the country’s leading wicket taker (48) of all time and currently sits 2nd on the all-time run scorer list (626), behind fellow WSX gun, Francisco Couana, who starred for Brislington CC in 2025 as the country’s first player to be engaged as a professional in the UK.

Keen to follow in his countryman’s footsteps, João will be an exciting pick up for any club seeking a genuine seam-bowling all-rounder that can bat anywhere in the top order and take the new ball. João is keen to be involved in all aspects of club life and whilst he has an ICC Level 2 coaching qualification, will need to complete his ECB qualifications during the summer.
