Joey is a 22 year old right-handed middle order batsman and right arm fast bowler from Hawkes Bay in New Zealand. Having come through the ranks at Central Districts age group representative cricket, he made the New Zealand Under 19 team that competed in the ICC World cup in South Africa in 2020. Here he set up a world record partnership of 88 runs for the 9th wicket in their quarter final win against the West Indies. He also took 4-35 against the eventual tournament winners Bangladesh in a warm up match victory.
After being called up to the Central District Stags first class side in 2019 as a 18 year old, Joey has gone on to play 7 first class matches, 12 List A matches and 15 T20 matches taking 37 wickets across all formats. Joey was also the top fielder in the competition during his T20 super smash season where he took 15 catches. Joey was awarded his first professional contract in the 2020 season. He is often described as a brilliant fielder, a natural captain and leader.
For a young guy Joey has also had a great start to his coaching career where he has coached various age group representative teams winning their tournaments. He has coached his old high school 1st X1 team and also coached his childhood club Havelok North cc to the main competition championship last year whilst playing. He has also completed two years of coaching small groups of young players in the local high performance cricket academy in Hawkes Bay and does many 1 to 1 coaching sessions throughout the season.
He joined Halstead CC in the Two Counties Championship in 2024, predominantly as a batsman due to recovery from surgery and he his lack of bowling was more than made up for with 1035 runs @ 60.88 and helping the club to a 3rd consecutive EAPL promotion play-off.
Joey is looking to continue his all round development with a stint in the UK again next summer. He is eligible for both a UK ancestry visa as well as the International Sportspersons Visa. Joey would ideally like to play in and around the London area but is open to all options. He represents an outstanding option for any club looking for that all round package.
