Joshua Dodd is an attacking seam-bowling all-rounder from Port Elizabeth in South Africa’s Eastern Cape. A hard-hitting middle order Batsman, Josh is a sharp right-arm fast/medium seamer with good shape and pace. Somewhat of a late bloomer, Josh forced his way in to the Border side through performances at club level, a bit of a rarity these days and going against the grain of schoolboy star to age group provincial star to Pro. Not to say he wasn’t a standout at those levels but he missed selection for one reason or another.

A genuine representative level Hockey player, Joshua changed tact and sought a crack at First Class Cricket in his early 20’s. Josh relocated to East London ahead of the summer 2018-19 and made his Provincial debut in Nov 18 against a hot North West outfit. He has gone on to represent Border in all 3 formats and on 25 occasions over the last 2 summers. His best success with the ball in hand has come in 3-day cricket, picking up 24 wickets @ 26 in his first 9 First Class games.

His most impressive performance with the ball came in March 2019, against a very strong Gauteng line up containing Proteas Stephen Cook and Wiann Mulder. After picking up 4-57 in the 1st Innings, he returned figures of 7-67 in a nail-biter of a 2nd Innings, as Gauteng pursued 260 to win on the last day. His efforts kept Gauteng 16 runs short and with only one wicket in hand as the game ended in a dramatic draw.

Yet to get going with the bat in a big way against the red ball, he hit a career best 93 (102) against a stacked Western Province side in their 50-over clash in Nov 19, helping Border recover from 6-40 to get within 10 runs of the 264 run target set to win, showing a typical fighting South African attitude.

Josh had his first season in the UK in 2021, joining Valley End CC in the Surrey Championship, a delayed start with COVID saw him only play 14 games but his return was solid, 387 runs @ 32.25 and 22 wickets @ 16.23. He returned to VECC 2022, scoring 748 runs @ 32.52 and snagging 43 wickets @ 19.42. Another year in Surrey saw Josh pile on 955 runs @ 56.18 and help himself to 27 wickets @ 20.70.

Seeking a return to the UK next summer, Josh will be a great pick up for a club seeking a very talented and genuine all-round cricketer for next summer.
