Josh Pistorius is a talented young cricketer from Cape Town, South Africa. Hard-working, extremely driven and a real competitor. With a keen and able cricketing mind and a great sense of awareness for the game, he is a quick learner who is always looking to improve and find new ways to be successful. As a naturally all-rounded cricketer, Josh makes valuable contributions with both bat and ball. His right-arm off spin is both economical and a real strike weapon, its complimented by his ability to bat anywhere in the top order.

Predominantly a top order batsman, with a style described as “fantastic with a perfect front foot technique” by Gary Kirsten, Josh is a compact and solid stroke
maker with an array of shots allowing him to manipulate fields and score all around the ground at an above healthy strike rate in all formats. With the ball Josh provides a good wicket taking option who is able to manage the scoring rate with accuracy and control. He is a wily, quick-witted off-spinner, who can control an end while using subtle changes in his action and pace to deceive batsmen and pick up regular wickets.

Josh has played provincial cricket, representing Western Province both at u13 and u15 levels across 3 consecutive years. He has been on an international tour to Malaysia representing a South African u15 side in 2015 and went on to play his high school cricket at Rondebosch Boys’ High School, the number one cricketing school in the country where he was exposed to some of the best facilities and coaching, namely Ryan Cook and Gary Kirsten. Josh was a pivotal player at school and was able to influence and manage his team mates well which saw him gain the captaincy for both his final two years at Rondebosch. In 2019 he finished as the leading wicket taker, taking 23 wickets in 12 games at an average of 16.48.

Travelling to the UK in 2017 Josh had one of his most successful all round seasons with Wrekin College 1st XI. Josh adapted well to foreign conditions and had success batting at the top of the order, playing 28 matches and scoring 864 runs at an average of 41.14 and a strike rate of 118.03. Josh excelled with ball in hand, picking up 50 wickets for Wrekin College @ 10.22.

Josh completed his first season in the UK in 2021, with Wellington Cricket Club in the Shropshire County Cricket League’s Premier Division. Bagging 42 wickets and chipping in with 396 runs. He stayed on in the UK to study and linked with Geddington CC in the ECB Northants Prem, scoring 708 runs @ 30.78 and picking up 31 wickets @ 20.39 in a solid return.

Summer 2023 saw him join Chorley CC in the ECB Northern Premier League, bagging 40 wickets and chiming in with 500+ runs in an excellent return. He was also a regular for the Loughborough 1st XI, scoring 288 runs @ 41.14 with a best of 117 against Durham UCCE.

Now based long-term in the UK, Josh will be a great pick up for a club seeking a genuine spin bowling all-rounder for next summer. He would prefer to play in North London/Herts area.
