Joylord Gumbie is a talented batsman/wicketkeeper from Harare, Zimbabwe. A very capable right-hander, Joylord has always been a player “in the mix” in Zimbabwe’s domestic system throughout his time in the game. A regular for Zimbabwe at Under 17 level, including representation at the Cricket South Africa U17 National week, in which Zimbabwe were invited to participate, he also represented Zimbabwe at the 2014 ICC Under 19 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
Prior to the U19 World Cup, Joylord had already appeared in the professional game domestically, debuting for the Mashonaland Eagles against the MidWest Rhinos in late 2013. Since his first appearances for the Eagles and subsequent games for the Mountaineers, whom he joined in 2019-20, Joylord has maintained a regular presence with sporadic glimpses of what he can deliver in the top flight, without ever really becoming a regular standout.
Following a decent 2020-21 season, Joylord was selected in the wider National team squad and was a standby player for Zimbabwe’s Test matches against Pakistan. He was again named in the Test Squad in July ’21 for their one-off match against Bangladesh.
Seeking to spread his wings in 2023, Joylord is looking for his first season abroad next summer and will be a good pick up for a club seeking a very capable top order Batsman still looking to make his mark in the game.
