Junaid Dawood is a promising leg-spinner from Cape Town in South Africa. A right-handed lower order Batsman not renowned for his exploits with the willow in hand, but is a capable lower order hitter, Junaid’s right-arm Leg Spin has been the skillset that has seen him kick on from Schoolboy star to Provincial Cricketer. Schooled at Rondesbosch Boys High School, arguably South Africa’s best Cricket school, Junaid was a Western Province representative at U17 and also appeared at two Cricket South Africa U19 Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Week’s for his home province in 2014 & 2015.
Junaid would go on to be selected for the Cape Cobras Franchise Cubs Week in 2016 and off the back of 13 wickets @ 15.15 was promptly snapped up by Eastern Province who would offer to fast-track him into their First Class side for summer 2016-17. His 15 wickets @ 25.06 (13 of which came against Namibia) prompted a return to Western Province and he has gone on to represent his home province in all 3 formats, predominantly in First Class cricket.
Whilst not being as prolific as he’d like with the ball, his bowling has not gone unnoticed by the powers that be, with Junaid selected for the SA Emerging Side that toured Sri Lanka as well as Spin bowling camps with Cricket South Africa in India in 2018.
Seeking his first summer in the UK in 2022, Junaid will be a good pick up for any club seeking a strike leg-spinner for next summer that can hopefully get some more time in the middle with the bat to show his wares.
