Khwezi Gumede

Khwezi Gumede is one of most exciting fast-bowling talents in South Africa. A right-handed lower Order Batsman, Khwezi’s searing Left-arm Fast seam bowling has had some of the most accomplished professional cricketers in South Africa hopping all over the place. A Durban lad originally, he came through the Kwa-Zulu Natal age groups from U17 onwards. Whilst a little inconsistent, like many young seamers, his numbers continued to improve as he progress through U19 cricket and into the Dolphins Academy.

Surprisingly, after just 2 appearances, the Dolphins let him slip away, picked up by Easterns and by the end of summer 2019-20, he had forced his way into the Titans side off the back of his electric white-ball form, finishing the season with 23 wickets @ 18.34 including a best of 5-48 against Boland. He would make 3 appearances for the Titans in the Momentum One Day Cup, picking up 4 wickets.

Khwezi is still by no means the finished article but he will continue to fill out his athletic frame and as you will see in his highlights video, there is much to be excited about with his exciting young talent who will be keen to impress first time abroad.

In summer 2021, Khwezi joined Mistley CC in the Two Counties Championship, collecting 24 wickets @ 16.00 and delivering not only outstanding youth and ladies coaching despite a lack of genuine experience but also venturing into local schools via the Chance 2 Shine program for which the school’s feedback was exceptional.

Seeking to play in the UK next summer, Khwezi is looking make amends for a tough 2024 with Midsomer Norton CC.

Khwezi will be a good pick up for any club looking to add a sharp left-armer to their armoury who, when he gets it right, will have plenty of club cricketers getting a little closer to the sqaure leg umpire.
