Kumar Suraj is another of Indian Cricket’s wonderful batting talents. A Jharkhand junior through and through, he has followed the traditional path to professional cricket and has continued to impress at every step of the journey. A classy left-handed middle order Batsman, he is patient and methodical in his approach which is why the red-ball game has suited his style so much more in his career to date.

A star for the Jharkhand U19 in the Cooch Behar & Vinoo Mankad Trophy’s, his 2 seasons of U19 State Cricket were productive, yielding 772 runs @ 40.63 across the 3 tournaments with an incredible best of 239 vs Hyderabad. He continued to pile on the runs in the CK Nayudu Trophy (U23) over the next couple of seasons so it was a natural progress to be handed his Professional debut in summer 2019-20.

After a first innings duck against Maharashtra, Kumar lead a failed 2nd innings follow-on fightback, with a composed 92 (162) showing the occasion hadn’t overawed him at all and set him up to make what has been an exceptional start to his First Class career. In his first two seasons in the big time, Kumar struck 711 runs @ 54.69 with 3 Fifties and 3 Hundreds with a best of 131* (162) coming against a stacked Delhi attack containing Ishant Sharma and Navdeep Saini.

Seeking his first season in the UK in summer 2023, Kumar joined West Herts CC in the ECB Herts Prem. He battled to adjust to the UK wickets sufficiently and with his season cut short with a compulsory return to provincial duty, he left with 378 runs @ 25.20 to his name.

Looking to improve on his first up performance, Kumar will be a good pick up for any UK club chasing a classy middle-order Batsman that is also keen to utilise his time in the UK to develop his Right-arm Off Spin bowling to add another string to his bow.
