Lakshan Gamage is an exciting young all-rounder from Ragama, Sri Lanka. A brutal left-handed middle order batsman, Lakshan is a skillful Right-arm Fast/Medium seamer that has been in Sri Lankan Cricket’s line of sight for some time having starred for St Josephs College Colombo, one of Sri Lanka’s best Cricket School. He represented Sri Lanka at U19 level and currently plays for Burgher Recreation Club in Sri Lanka’s domestic system.

A strapping young man that has a genuine presence about him, Lakshan is a passionate and dedicated young cricketer with a strong drive to succeed and has developed good habits with his training and preparation. His cricket education at St Joseph’s has prepared him for a long and successful career, as it did for Alumni like Angelo Matthews, Chaminda Vaas & Thisara Perera. A good strategic cricket brain, Lakshan thrives under pressure and is not afraid to seek analysis and feedback to enhance his game.

Having represented Sri Lanka U19 in both Youth Test & ODI’s, Lakshan’s natural progress into the professional game saw him debut for the Sri Lankan Army Sports Club in 2022. Since his debut, he has been an exciting contributor with the bat, carrying an incredible strike rate in red-ball cricket of 88.10 and 140+ in T20 Cricket. He’s been particularly effective with the ball in T20 Cricket, bagging 15 wickets @ 11.20 in 2 seasons and being picked up for the LPL Franchise, the Galle Gladiators.

Seeking his first season in the UK in 2024, Lakshan joined Corsham CC in the WEPL Prem 2. 872 runs across all formats was a tidy return and included a brutal 156 (64) in the local T20 comp. His bowling struggled, with his natural back of a length style not adapting enough to suit the conditions. But, he is a young cricketer with plenty of upward curve and will be better for the experience.

An exciting prospect that can genuinely contribute with the bat and ball next summer, Lakshan will be a good signing for a club seeking a new ball bowler that has the ability to change a game with the bat.
