His cousin Malinda Warnapura also played 14 Tests for his country, and in the 2000’s he was one of the most sought after Overseas players in the UK.

Madawa has been a consistant performer in first class cricket and captained his first class side Bloomfield CC for a few years before moving to the star studded Colombo cricket club. He has now scored nearly 5500 first class runs with 10 hundreds and 36 fifties. His performances hasn’t gone unnoticed by the national selectors. In the 2016 summer he toured with the Sri Lanka A team for the tour of England and opened the batting against Durham and Pakistan A. He then returned to Sri Lankan and was selected in a tour match against the touring Australian side. Over the last few seasons Madawa has been a proven performer for Negombo CC. This season he has been in supurb form scoring 627 runs at 48.23.

Madawa played in the UK in 2017 for Dalton CC in the North Lancashire and Cumbria Premier league in what was a tough season for the club. Madawa however, finished with 710 runs and 50 wickets, a fantastic effort in tough conditions.

He returned to the UK some 6 years later, joining Eppleton CC in the North East Premier League for the 2023 season. Madawa was sensational, scoring 946 runs @ 67.57 and chipping in with 17 wickets. He returned in 2024, joining Bradninch & Kentisbeare CC in the ECB Devon Premier League. His 630 runs @ 63.00 helped them to take out the league title.

A proven performer he is looking to return again next summer and is a high class option for any side looking for a proven performer, who gets heavily involved and is available all season. Madawa will be joined by his family for the 2nd half of the season.
