Mekyle Pillay is an outstanding all-rounder prospect from Benoni, South Africa. A hard-hitting Right-hander that bats anywhere from 3 to 8, Mekyle is a Right-arm Fast/Medium swing bowler, equally capable of taking the new rock or bowling 1st/2nd change. A hard-worker committed to his fitness and best preparing himself, Mekyle has made himself a very coachable cricketer.

A schoolboy star, Mekyle was ever present in the Easterns age group sides from U12 right through to U19 level in 2017. With his continued presence within the various age group, Mekyle assumed a leadership within the group and was named captain of the Easterns Academy in 2018. Mekyle plays his club cricket for the strong Actonville Spurs CC in the Easterns Premier League side and has captained them on occasion from the age of 19, such is his maturity, well beyond his years.

A genuine all-rounder that is able to contribute in many ways, with the ball in hand, his ability to swing the ball both ways and hit a consistent line and length has seen him develop into one of the league and academy’s most consistent pace bowlers. He also works tirelessly on his variation and enjoys bowling towards the end of the innings or the “death”.

A clean striker that can consolidate or go through the gears as appropriate, with the ability to float in the batting line up according to the game situation, Mekyle headed to the UK for the first time in 2022 as an amateur cricketer, linking with Sentinel CC. His return was excellent with 1074 runs @ 38.36 to go with 67 wickets @ 15.85 across all formats was a very impressive first up start in the UK.

On his return to South Africa, he was selected for the Easterns Provincial side for their first Red-ball game of the summer, meaning Mekyle returned to the UK as a Professional in summer 2023, joining Bradfield CC in the Norfolk Premier Division, scoring 589 runs @ 34 & chiming in with 35 wickets @ 18.

A humble young man, Meklye seeks an opportunity to join a friendly and welcoming club next summer that will present him with an opportunity to continue developing his all-round game and to showcase his abilities. Mekyle is also an enthusiastic coach with an ECB Level 2 equivalent qualification.
