Micheal Copeland

Micheal “Mickey” Copeland is an outstanding young all-round talent originally from Kwa-Zulu Natal but now based in South Africa’s Boland Region. A clean-striking Right-handed Middle Order Batsman, Mickey is also a tidy Right-arm Off-Spinner that, with his height, is quite tricky to get away. Mickey is currently contracted with the Boland Province.

Schooled at the prestigious King Edward School in Johannesburg, he represented North West Province at U13 level before being plucked from School Cricket as a 17-year old to represent the South Africa U19 side to face the touring Pakistan U19 side in mid-2019. Mickey remained in the selectors sight’s until he was in the top age, selected for the touring party for the 2022 ICC Under 19 World Cup held in the West Indies.

Mickey had already made his first professional appearances prior to the world cup, handed a First Class debut for Boland against the Knights in October 2021 and has gone on to make 5 red-ball appearances. His forte appears to be in the shorter formats, with his white-ball appearances becoming increasingly regular for the Rocks.

Mickey was selected for the SA Emerging side that hosted Zimbabwe in the 2023 summer, scoring 45 on debut.

Seeking his first season in the UK in 2024, Mickey joined Cherry Tree CC in the North West Cricket League. Batting on northern wickets was a bit of an eye opener for Mickey but he’ll be better for it, with 441 runs to go with a very tidy 36 wickets @ 16.50.

Mickey will be a fantastic pick up for any UK club seeking an enigmatic young all-round talent for the summer that is not only a really exciting prospect but benefits from holding a UK Passport.
