Mthi Nabe

Mthiwekhaya ‘Mthi’ Nabe is a clever seam-bowling all-rounder born in South Africa’s Eastern Cape. Having lived and plied his trade for the Western Province Cobras for most of his career to date, Mthi moved back to the East, linking with the Eastern Province Warriors ahead of the 2020-21 summer. Not overly quick, Mthi relies on guile and bowling smarts and has proven to be, albeit a little inconsistently, a handy lower order batsman with a good eye, having scored a couple of First Class half-centuries.

Since his debut in 2016, Mthi has gone on to make over 140 Provincial appearances and has bagged 200+ wickets at the elite level and has been particularly effective in the shorter formats of the game. With a big engine and the ability to bowl long spells, Mthi is highly thought of and has been included in South Africa ‘A’ squads, making it into the playing XI against an Indian Board President’s XI on the 2018-19 tour to the sub-continent.

The move to the Warriors was a productive one. Not only was he selected in the Mzansi Super League T20 for the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants, but he bagged 79 wickets for the province including 30 white-ball wickets @ 20.86. He returned to Western province ahead of the 2023-24 season having one of his best red-ball seasons on his return with 20 wickets @ 22.95.

Seeking his first season in the UK in 2025, Mthi will be a good pick up for any club seeking a new ball bowler that can bang it down the order. Mthi is an ECB Level 2 equivalent coach.
