Nicholas Smit is an incredibly talented and very experienced cricketer from Johannesburg but now based in Potchefstroom. A hard-hitting right-handed Top Order Batsman, Nic spent years pummelling runs in the Gauteng Premier League for Jeppe Quondam CC alongside his brother Matt before finally getting an opportunity to join North West Province in summer 2019-20 as somewhat of a late bloomer in the professional game at age, 26. He would waste no time making an impact, cracking 153 (239) on First Class debut followed up with an excellent 102 (126) in the one-dayer a couple of days later against Border.

With no glittering age group career to speak of, Nic pushed his way into the First Class system purely through persistence and hard work, seeking constant improvement by spending his winters abroad whilst awaiting an opportunity to step up in to the professional game. After 3 years scoring a mountain of runs in Yorkshire for Aston Hall CC between 2015-2017, Nic took a step up in standard, joining Vauxhall Mallards CC in the ECB East Anglian Premier League in 2018. He was at his run scoring best, picking up 1063 runs @ 48.32 and chiming in with 39 wickets @ 20.92. In 2019, Nic opted to head to Holland, joining Voorburg CC for 12 games, scoring 462 runs @ 57.75 in the country’s Topklasse competition.

He returned to the EAPL in 2021, signing for Mildenhall CC as they finished the summer in 3rd place, Nick contributing 577 runs @ 44.38 and chipping in with 27 wickets @ 15.93 in another solid return for this diamond of a young man.

He shifted to Surrey for 2022, linking with Esher CC in the ECB Surrey Premier League alongside fellow WSX Client, Justin Broad. Nic was once again the proven performer with 1057 runs @ 45.96 with a best of 118. He remained with the club in 2023, scoring 522 runs @ 32.63 with a best of 109 against Guildford CC

With a wealth of overseas experience behind him, Nic is looking to head to the UK next summer to join an ambitious and progressive club and will be a popular pick up for any club seeking a genuine top-order contributor that is also a better than useful Right-arm Off-Spinner. Nic is a friendly, sociable character who will be a really good fit for just about any club this year.

Nic seeks to play in Surrey where he has his own accommodation available.
