Nipho Mpungose

Nhlakanipho Mpungose is an exciting seamer, originally from Durban, that flew somewhat under the radar throughout much of his youth career. Having represented Umkhanyakude Township U19 in the Townships competition, he also was a young, raw, spearhead for Lindelani CC in the Kwa-Zulu Natal Promotion League.

With genuine pace, Nipho terrorised local KZN club Cricketers for a number of seasons before making his 50-over debut and a further appearance for Kwa-Zulu Natal at the conclusion of the 2020-21 season.

An opportunity arose with the Knights ahead of the 2021-22, making his First Class debut at the back end of the season. He’s gone on to become a legitimate strike weapon in the Knights attack and in 2024, was selected to represent the South African Emerging Players against Zimbabwe.

His selection came off the back of shooting the lights out in the Domestic T20 competition at the end of summer 2023-24, having picked up 10 wickets in 6 games and using his sheer pace to make life very uncomfortable for a number of accomplished First Class performers.

Seeking his first season in the UK in 2025, Nipho will be an exciting pick for any club seeking a genuinely quick bowler for next summer that is also capable of doing a job in the lower order with the bat in hand.
