Patrick Kruger is an impressive talent from Kimberley in South Africa’s Northern Cape region. A dashing top order Batsman, he is also a genuine seam-bowling option. He debuted shortly after his 18th Birthday for his native Griqualand West side against Boland and has made himself a regular feature for the Knights Franchise. He is also the brother of fellow Knights/Northern Cape player, Aubrey Swanepoel. Patrick also represented the South African emerging players in 2016.
Summer 2017-18 was been a break out season for Patrick, scoring 458 runs @ 45.8 in First Class Cricket and averaging 39.10 in one-day cricket, having scored 391 runs in 11 innings. His attacking style has also seen him feature heavily in T20 cricket domestically, with a career average just under 30 at 29.90 in the shortest format, impressively at a strike rate of 123.27.
Highly rated in South Africa, Patrick spent the 2015 summer in the UK with Clifton CC in the Derbyshire Premier League. Scoring 896 runs @ 44.80, he also picked up 21 wickets. Having enjoyed his first UK stint throughly, Patrick returned in 2018 to join Bradford League powerhouse, Farsley CC, scoring 495 runs @ 27.50 and collecting 42 wickets @ 13.02 in a shortened stint.
Pat returned to the UK in 2019, re-joining Farsley CC for the summer and whilst his season was cut short by provincial duty, his impact with the ball was outstanding, picking up a best of 7-19 against Cleckheaton CC in his last game before heading home.
Returning to the UK for the first time since COVID, Patrick linked with Derriaghy CC in the NCU Premier League and was excellent, 843 runs @ 56 and contributing with 20 wickets as well in a solid return in a team that struggled with the jump to the Premier League.
He made his Proteas debut in 2024, playing 4 x T20I against the West Indies.
Patrick is seeking a return to the UK next summer and will be a popular pick up for a club seeking a genuine all-rounder for this next season.
