Praveen de Silva

Praveen de Silva is a genuinely exciting young all-round talent from Sri Lanka. A hard-hitting Right-hander that is suited to bat anywhere from 5-8, he is a genuine new-ball threat with his Left-arm Fast/Medium seam bowling but has also been a genuine threat with his Slow Left-arm Orthodox. A former Gurukula College student, the tear-away quick was an outstanding performer throughout the age groups.

Having been selected for the Sri Lankan U19 side that hosted the Australian U19 tour in January 2019, he had an excellent 2019 Sri Lankan U19 Provincial tournament, Praveen bagging 9 wickets in 4 games and finishing equal second with fellow WSX Client, Dilum Sudeera.

Praveen, like many, battled on the resumption of Cricket post-COVID but did make his professional debut for Nondescripts in the 50-Over tournament in 2021. He wouldn’t be sighted until he burst back on to the scene with SL Air Force SC in 2023, debuting in both T20 & First Class Cricket throughout the year. He made an impressive red-ball start in particular, scoring three half-centuries in his first 8 innings at the highest level.

Summer 2024 saw Praveen join Eppleton CC in the ECB North East Div 1, jagging 50 wickets @ 13 and contributing 700+ runs in an outstanding first season in the UK. He returned in 2025 to ECC, scoring 663 runs and helping him to 50 wickets yet again.

Seeking a return to the UK next summer, Praveen is an exciting prospect that bowls genuine pace as well as offering a spin option and can surely be a significant contributor in the middle order next summer.
