Raynard van Tonder is a highly thought of Top Order Batsman from Bloemfontein, South Africa. A classy Right-hander, Raynard has long been seen as a Protea in the making, having been a regular selection for his native Free State throughout each age group, he dominated youth cricket like not too many others before him. Having progressed through the Knights U19/Cubs sides, he made his first class debut for his home province just after his 18th birthday in October 2016.
Raynard burst onto the scene at the 2018 ICC Under 19 World Cup in New Zealand as Captain of the SA side and had a record breaking campaign personally, scoring the third most runs by a South African at an Under 19 World Cup with 348 runs in total and being selected as the captain of the World Cup Team of the Tournament.
Off the back a few stellar domestic performances, including being the leading run scorer in the 2019/20 CSA 4 Day Competition, and the second leading run scorer the following season, Raynard was called up to the Proteas test squad. He represented South Africa A in 2021, and even though he is yet to make his Proteas debut, we’re excited to see him continue his development and representing the Proteas for many years to come.
One of the best performed red-ball batsmen in the country, Raynard has averaged over 50 since his the start of 2nd season of Professional cricket with a penchant for big scores, having scored 7 centuries with 3 of those being double tons, including a career best 250* against Gauteng in 2018-19.
Seeking his first season in the UK in 2023, Raynard joined Billericay CC for their Essex League campaign and was excellent, scoring 672 runs @ 51.69 with a best of 149 (118) against Belhus CC.
He returned to the UK in 2024, joining Cutthorpe CC in the ECB Derbyshire Premier League and was flying, with 668 runs before the unfortunate loss of his mother required him to return to SA.
Raynard will be an excellent pick up for any UK club seeking a high class top order batsman for next summer.
