Renaldo Meyer is a tidy seam-bowling all-rounder from Cape Town, South Africa. A left-handed lower order Batsman that works hard for his runs, he is a sharp right-arm fast seamer with searing pace and bounce. A hard-worker, Renaldo is another story of persistence, having not played any junior age group cricket of note, he has toiled away in club cricket for Avendale CC & Victoria CC in the Western Province Premier League waiting for his opportunity.
In 2017, after some strong performances in club cricket, Renaldo scored a debut for Western Province against Border in the 2017–18 Sunfoil 3-Day Cup in October. He got a follow up game a month later and a 3rd before the season was out. He got a handful of games in 2018-19 before switching to South Western Districts ahead of the 2019-20 season. The move would prove fruitful for Renaldo as he collected 24 wickets @ 30.79 throughout the summer in the 3-Day comp and 8 wickets @ 25.00 in the One-day Challenge, nearly 3 times as many wickets as he had taken for WP in his 2 seasons.
Renaldo was an integral part of the SWD squad heading into summer 2020-21, with his skiddy seam bowling constantly improving. His improvement was so good, that North West came in swinging with a contract offer for 2022-23 to play in the country’s top tier of domestic cricket.
Renaldo headed to the UK for the first time in 2023, joining Frinton-on-Sea CC for their East Anglian Premier League campaign and was excellent. Picking up 46 wickets @ 15.39 including 2 x 7-wicket hauls, Renaldo bowled with serious pace and had a number of top order batsman considering their life choices. He returned in 2024 but the impact wasn’t quite the same but managed to jag 20 wickets in a short 13-game stint
Looking to return next summer, Renaldo has proved to be more than a handful on some seam-friendly UK decks and with a very personable character, will be a good fit around the club lucky enough to bag him for the summer.
