Rishith Upamal is a quality young Batting All-Rounder from Colombo, Sri Lanka. A patient right-handed middle order batsman, Rishith is also a capable yet seldom-used right-arm off-spinner. A regular for Kalutara PCC in the 2015-16 Emerging Tournament as a teenager, he shifted to the Chilaw Marians CC for their U23 Tournament in 2016 after some strong contributions for Kalutara the season before.
Rishith has found his place as a regular in the Chilaw Marians Provincial side mostly in First Class cricket and his constant improvement has been evident in red-ball cricket over the last 3 seasons of domestic cricket. After a steady 362 runs @ 30.16 in his debut season (2016-17), Rishith has gone on to score 903 runs @ 53.12 in his last 12 First Class games across the 2017-18 & 2018-19 seasons.
Venturing to the UK for the first time in 2019, Rishith joined Dundee High School Former Pupils CC in the Strathmore & Perthshire Cricket Union Championship. He stuck 796 runs @ 53.07 in 20 innings with a best 100 vs Arbroath United CC and chipped in with 9 wickets @ 14.33 with a best of 3-34 against Perth Doocot CC.
In summer 2021, Rishith linked with Ossett CC in the Bradford League, scoring 802 runs @ 44.56. He returned to the UK in 2022, signing for Keswick CC in the Cumbria Premier League and was excellent, scoring 801 runs @ 57.21 with a best of 118 and chiming in with 25 wickets @ 21.32 with a best of 3-26. He returned to Keswick in 2023 and was again excellent with 757 runs @ 39.84 and 29 wickets @ 20.90. KCC retained Rishi for the 2024 summer and the rot continued, scoring 704 runs @ 44 & nabbing 32 wickets @ 18.19.
Summer 2025 saw Rishi join Worfield CC in the Birmingham & District Prem 2, scoring 1077 runs @ 67.31 with a league best of 185 (152) against Handsworth. He also chimed in with 24 wickets.
Seeking a return to the UK next summer, Rishith has completed his ECB Level 2 coaching qualification and will be a strong option for any UK club seeking a staunch top/middle order batsman and occasional off-spinner for next summer. Rishith will be ravelling with his wife.
