Ryan Murray is a precociously talented Wicket-Keeper/Batsman from Zimbabwe. A big-hitting Right-handed Top/Middle Order Batsman, he is an imposing figure at the crease. He is also a tidy gloveman with quick hands. A product of the prestigious St John’s College, Harare, he was a schoolboy star and right throughout his teens, represented Zimbabwe from the U13 group onwards. He represented the Zimbabwe U19 side on countless occasions and was first selected as a 16 year old.
Unbelievably, his first professional senior game was for Zimbabwe, hitting 34 (22) against Free State at the 2016 Africa T20 Cup. He made his 50-over debut for Zimbabwe A against Afghanistan A during Afghanistan’s tour to Zimbabwe in Jan ’17. He had not played a First Class game at provincial level at this point but he soon made his debut for Rising Stars in the 2017–18 Logan Cup, scoring 84 in the 2nd innings against a 6-man bowling attack that included 5 Zimbabwe Internationals. In Jan ’18, he was named in the Zimbabwe One Day International (ODI) squad for the tri-series in Bangladesh but didn’t get a game.
He wouldn’t have to wait long, as he was picked for the Board XI team to play warm-up fixtures ahead of the 2018 Zimbabwe Tri-Nation Series and later that month, he was named in Zimbabwe’s ODI squad for their series against Pakistan. Chasing 308, Zimbabwe was never on track to chase but he held firm, scoring 32* (48) as Zim were rolled for 107.
Now residing in the UK, Ryan will be an excellent pick up for any London-based club seeking a big hitting Top/Middle Order batsman that is also an accomplished wicket-keeper for next summer.
