Sam Fanning is a gifted Top Order Batsman, originally from NSW but now based in Perth. A classy, Left-hander, Sam is a professional cricketer for Western Australia and was a member of the Australian squad who took part in the 2020 Under 19 World Cup. He currently represents Perth CC in the WACA Premier Cricket Competition when not on duty for Western Australia.
Born in New Zealand, his family moved to the UK in when he was in Year 3 and he attended Dulwich College where his love for Cricket began. The family relocated to Sydney in 2014 and he attended the prestigious St Ignatius College. He progressed through the NSW age groups and ultimately the Australian U19 side before heading west to Perth.
Whilst on a rookie contract with Western Australia, Sam dominated WACA premier cricket in 2021/22 finishing with 867 runs at an average of 51, 122 runs clear of the next best. Sam had also been in the runs for the Western Australia 2nd XI in the Futures league with 179 runs @ 44.75, which earned him an upgrade from a rookie contract to a full contract.
His 2022-23 summer got off to a flyer with two hundreds in his first 4 innings to start the summer including an excellent 158* (151) against Joondalup DCC. He ended the season with an impressive 1065 in all formats with 778 coming in 1st Grade.
In November 2022, Sam made his first-class debut for Western Australia against a NSW attack that included Nathan Lyon and also top scored for a WA XI with 59 (off 53) in a low-scoring match against India in a T20 warm up match at the WACA.
Seeking his first season in the UK in 2024, Sam joined Little Lever CC in the North West Cricket League, scoring 806 runs @ 44.78 with a best of 107* against Astley Bridge CC.
Holding a UK passport, Sam will be an excellent signing for any UK club seeking a patient but prolific top order batsman for next summer.
